Bloomberg Philanthropies and National Geographic Announce “Your Shot” Assignment for Climate Change Photography

Call to photographers for photos depicting local climate action to be made at Washington D.C. screening of National Geographic and Bloomberg Philanthropies’ climate documentary, ‘Paris to Pittsburgh’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, ahead of a screening of their documentary, Paris to Pittsburgh, at National Geographic’s headquarters, Bloomberg Philanthropies and National Geographic announced a joint call for citizen photographers to document local climate leadership in their communities and have the chance to be featured on National Geographic and Bloomberg digital platforms.

The assignment, which will be hosted on National Geographic’s Your Shot platform, builds on efforts by Bloomberg Philanthropies to raise awareness about climate change through visual media, as it did with its recently released documentary, Paris to Pittsburgh. Bloomberg and National Geographic are asking photographers of all skill levels to capture climate action in their communities, and highlight both the impacts of climate change and the local solutions that are being implemented on the ground. Select submissions will be featured on NationalGeographic.com and highlighted on National Geographic and Bloomberg Philanthropies social and digital channels. National Geographic’s Your Shot is an international community of photographers who are invited to learn from experts and tell their stories through photography assignments.

“At Bloomberg, we’re always looking to find unique, attention-grabbing ways to tell the stories of climate change and how it impacts all of us,” said Bloomberg Associates’ Katherine Oliver, who executive produced Paris to Pittsburgh. “Through the Your Shot assignment, we’re excited to further our partnership with National Geographic and bring citizen photographers into the conversation, both to demonstrate the gravity of the issue and to showcase brilliant, innovative climate leadership happening all around the world.”

At Wednesday’s event, Bloomberg Philanthropies also announced an upcoming grassroots and campus screening tour for the film. The tour will encourage Americans to organize Paris to Pittsburgh screenings and engage their communities around the film and the issue of local climate action. From small screenings in family homes to events at large theaters with panel discussions, Bloomberg Philanthropies wants to empower grassroots organizing to foster greater conversations about the importance of collective, local climate action.
