The Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library

In 2020, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Medford Public Library Foundation announced that the new public library being constructed in the City of Medford would be named the Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library in honor of Mike Bloomberg and Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven’s parents. Mike made a $3 million gift toward the construction of the new public library in his hometown, recognizing the essential role it continues to play in the Massachusetts community in which he and his sister grew up.

A new library for the future of Medford

The Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library opened in January 2022. With over 123,000 volumes, the two-story energy efficient building contains a separate space for children and teens, a public computer area, a local history room, small meeting and study rooms, an auditorium, a gallery, and a café and lounge area.

In June 2022, Mike and Marjorie attended the official dedication ceremony with guests including Senator Ed Markey and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners Chair Mary Ann Cluggish.

My parents instilled in my brother and me a love of learning and reading, and the Medford Library gave us the chance to explore new worlds and broaden our horizons. The new library will open doors for even more people through books and learning – expanding opportunity, enriching the community, and improving lives.
