Michael R. Bloomberg

Mike Bloomberg is an entrepreneur and three-term mayor of New York City whose innovations in business, government, and philanthropy have made him a pioneering leader on critical issues facing America and the world.

Elected mayor just weeks after the attacks of September 11, 2001, Bloomberg led New York City’s resurgence. He spearheaded the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan, fought poverty with new programs that became national models, and turned around a failing school system. Bloomberg also reduced carbon emissions by 13 percent, increased New Yorkers’ life expectancy by three years, and – despite the Great Recession – led the city to record job growth.

Bloomberg LP, the financial technology and media company he launched in 1981, revolutionized the investment industry and now employs some 21,000 people. He has also given away $14.4 billion through Bloomberg Philanthropies, which works to save and improve lives through its core focus areas – Public Health, Education, the Environment, Government Innovation, and the Arts – as well as a series of special Founder’s Projects and a pro-bono city consulting group called Bloomberg Associates.

In addition to his role as Global Advisor to the Winners of The Earthshot Prize, Bloomberg leads boards across a broad array of issues and serves as UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions, as WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases, and as chair of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Board. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School.
