In 2022, Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative invested in the creation of a new digital platform that made data about wealth in the U.S. more accessible and actionable. By collecting, organizing, and visualizing complex, fragmented datasets, the platform gives decision-makers a clearer view of where wealth exists and where new opportunities to build wealth are emerging.
The platform is now the Center for Opportunity and Wealth Data (COWD), housed at Johns Hopkins School of Government and Policy in Washington, D.C.
COWD takes an expansive view of what wealth means, offering tools capable of surfacing indicators that traditional measures miss — including financial resilience, homeownership, access to credit, and intergenerational transfer.
