In addition to the five main focus areas, Mike Bloomberg has a special passion for addressing national and international issues that emerge from his personal experience in business, government, and philanthropy. The Founder’s Projects tackle these issues.
Women’s Economic Development
Committed to the core belief that women are central to economic growth, the Women’s Economic Development Initiative supports partners who promote market activity which brings women to economic independence.

The Greenwood Initiative
Bloomberg Philanthropies has supported partners and institutions with proven track records of helping to increase economic and social mobility to help ensure more Americans can achieve the American Dream.

Johns Hopkins University
Mike Bloomberg’s special commitment to Johns Hopkins University, his alma mater, has been transformative, supporting scientific research and providing financial aid for students from low- and middle-income families. Since his first donation of $5 in 1964, Mike Bloomberg’s total giving to the university has reached more than $3.5 billion.

9/11 Memorial and Museum
In 2006, Mike Bloomberg became the chair of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the country’s principal institution to honor the memories of the victims, preserve the history, and explore the complex impact of the 9/11 attacks. During his time as mayor, Mike and his administration spearheaded the planning and development of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center
The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) is designed to be a unique venue for theater, dance, music, chamber opera, film, and media offering artists new possibilities for theatrical design and innovative work. PAC NYC is the final piece of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and opened in September 2023.

The Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library
In 2020, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Medford Public Library Foundation announced that the new public library being constructed in the City of Medford would be named the Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library in honor of Mike Bloomberg and Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven’s parents.

Disaster Relief
Drawing on years of experience forming public-private partnerships and mobilizing resources, Bloomberg Philanthropies quickly and effectively responds to natural disasters in the U.S. Virgin Islands and around the world.

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses
In partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program provides small business owners with business education, support services, and access to capital.
