Bloomberg CityLab

Every year, Bloomberg Philanthropies hosts CityLab, the preeminent meeting of city leaders and the top minds in urbanism and city planning, economics, education, art, architecture, public- sector innovation, community development, and business. Its goal: to find solutions to the most pressing challenges facing cities around the world.

The tenth Bloomberg CityLab took place in Washington, D.C. from October 18 to 20, 2023 in partnership with the Aspen Institute. The event brought together more than 500 city leaders, experts, innovators, and artists from around the world from over 200 cities spanning 40 countries and six continents across the globe. In addition, more than 100 mayors attended Bloomberg CityLab 2023 from leading cities in the U.S., Europe, Africa, and Latin America to attend sessions addressing challenges cities are facing regarding climate, infrastructure, technology, migration, gun violence, and more.

Past CityLabs have been hosted in New York, Los Angeles, London, Miami, Paris, Detroit, and Amsterdam. The 2021 CityLab was held virtually with host cities Bogotá, Freetown, Helsinki, and San Francisco.

Highlights from Bloomberg CityLab 2023 in Washington D.C.

As mayor, it’s so easy to feel like you’re on an island, to feel like you’re alone. And then you come to CityLab, you interact with other mayors, and you see and hear what they’re doing and it’s like an adrenaline shot. It gives you the energy to go back home and try something different or new.
