America’s Pledge co-chairs, former California Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. and Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder, Bloomberg LP & Bloomberg Philanthropies, and three-term Mayor of New York City, unveiled America’s Pledge’s fourth analysis, which finds that despite the past four years of environmental rollbacks from President Trump’s administration, non-federal actors have successfully counterbalanced the climate denial and obstruction from the White House. This has made it possible for the U.S. to reach net zero emissions by 2050 with aggressive federal climate re-engagement in 2021.

New State-of-the-Art Medford Public Library to be Named the Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library

Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Medford Public Library Foundation announced that the new public library being constructed in the City of Medford will be named the Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library in honor of Michael Bloomberg and Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven’s parents, who lived in Medford for 65 years. Michael Bloomberg has made a $3 million gift toward the construction of the new public library in his hometown, recognizing the essential role it plays in the community. The Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library is slated to open in the fall of 2021.

Global Mayors Showcase Innovation in the Face of COVID-19 in Bloomberg Philanthropies Virtual Leadership Convening

The COVID-19 pandemic has stretched many public health systems to the breaking point. With the global toll approaching 1 million deaths, urban populations are bearing the brunt of the impact. Supporting cities—home to more than 50% of the global population—in responding to COVID-19 is critical to blunting the impact of the virus. In a third virtual session, more than 30 mayors and city leaders representing 49 cities joined a panel of their peers in Leading Through Crisis: Reducing the Impact of COVID-19 in Latin America and Africa. The virtual learning series is hosted by Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and the Partnership for Healthy Cities, with support from Vital Strategies and its Resolve to Save Lives initiative.

NYC COVID-19 Response & Impact Fund Has Issued Over $110 Million in Emergency Funds to New York City-Based Nonprofits

The NYC COVID-19 Response & Impact Fund announced that more than $110 million in emergency support has been distributed to 768 New York City-based social services and arts and cultural nonprofits affected by the coronavirus public health crisis. More than $73 million in grant funding was managed by the New York Community Trust and over $37 million was managed by Nonprofit Finance Fund for no-interest loans. Small to mid-sized nonprofits across New York’s five boroughs applied for grants or interest-free loans to ensure the continuity of their daily operations and to help counteract lost revenue that challenged their ability to pay rent, make payroll or fulfill their public service missions.
